Wow, do I love this red & minimalist-inspired styled wedding! We created a classic wedding with a modern twist, using red as the focus. In the wedding industry, we see a lot of blush, dusty blue & gold. Classic black & white is everywhere. Bold colors are a lot harder to come by, and that’s because they are hard to get right. A bold color also is usually a color that easily clashes. It also makes a huge statement and is hard to ignore. But bold color can also be absolutely beautiful! I’ve wanted to work with with this gorgeous cherry tomato red color for a long time, and I was so thrilled that it became the focal point of this inspirational shoot!
I love clean, simple design. Sometimes, understated is best. As many of you already know, I am an aspiring minimalist and have made huge strides in my personal life to declutter our home, make much fewer (and smarter) purchases and generally simplify the way we live. Minimalism has become a word that I use really frequently. When we decided to use this bold, red color, pairing it with a minimalist style seemed right.
While I wouldn’t call this beautiful wedding inspiration “understated,” we did draw some inspiration from minimalist design. The invitation suite (by the fantastic Jenny of Wild Hearts Calligraphy) has an elegant simplicity that is as minimal as they come. The color red was our other main source of inspiration. Red can sometimes be harsh, hard to work with, and clash with everything around it. For this wedding inspiration, we created a bold but elegant look, with red as the (literal) centerpiece.
Our vendor team for this red-inspired shoot was absolutely incredible. The team came in and styled not one, but THREE shoots in one day for a workshop I co-hosted with Anna Fabian of Anna + Mateo. This was the first of them, which I led and co-planned with Claire Duran, who did SO much work to make this happen. The couple, Marla & DJ Bondoc, were a joy to work with. Marla is also a wedding photographer AND they are newlyweds! Having elopement shortly before the shoot, they were preparing for their big wedding day celebration a few months after this day! This in-between shoot felt like practice for their big wedding celebration, and we are so thankful that they were a part of it.
So thrilled to be sharing my favorites!
